Series of Three

For my series of three project, I would like to do three surrealistic photomontages. The three photomontages would be connected by using the same sort of textures and places in the pictures. I would like to do three photomontages similar to the one that I have already done in this class.

What Dreams May Come

Surrealism Photomontage
The image quality lessened considerably when it was uploaded to the post! The actual piece is blue not green and everything is blended and more solid looking than what is shown here!

Surrealistic Photomontage Idea

I would like to do a photomontage of things that I like that kind of describe me. I would like to add in some of my friends and images of places around the town I live in, which would be Aberdeen. There is a longer story that goes with this but I will share the condensed version. I was home-schooled for the large majority of my grade school years and for half of my high-school years. During Jr. High my family moved to a small town. It was very difficult to make friends in that small town for various reasons that I will not go into. As a result I spent a lot of time by myself and learned how to enjoy the quiet times and how to keep myself busy. This images that I would like to put together show some of the things that I either did, thought about, or imagined. Very surrealistic!

I'ld Rather Be...

This is a from a show on fox called Bones. It's the anthropological version of CSI. I think it would be fun to go to one of the shoots and help backstage in some way. Or be an extra....I be okay with that ;>

Contemporary Surrealism Art Review

Description: This piece entitled Faceless Composition was created by larafairie. This is a picture of a lady standing in a field with her head up and her hair blowing in the wind. The lady's face is either floating away from her or floating down to her. The expression on the face is very serene.

Analysis: The background is given a very soft, ethereal feeling that gives this piece a very dreamlike quality. The lady is in the very front foreground and is very clear and sharply in focus.

Interpretation: This piece seems to show the identity lost to oneself in a dream. That the person can be anyone they want to be and have complete peace with letting their identity go for those few precious moments.

Judgment: I absolutely love this piece! The execution and balance of this piece really helps to bring a sense of peace and tranquility to the viewer. With the face floating down, it makes one wonder who she is going to be.

Traditional Surrealism Art Review

Description: This untitled piece of a Medici princess was created by Joseph Cornell. The piece shows a portrait of a young princess surrounded by dozens of smaller pictures of herself and other people in her family. This piece is contains little marbles, or round balls. There are also little tiles with animals depicted on them and other tiles with numbers printed on them. The whole piece is encased in a wooden frame. There are lines that are crossing directly over the princess's face drawing the viewers eye directly to her face first. There is also vertical strips of what looks to be a map on either side of the girl's portrait.

Analysis: There are many implied lines shown here in the flow of the smaller pictures coming down on either side of the girl's portrait. There are also actual lines crossing over the girl's face and framing her on either side through the map fragments. The surrounding background of the piece is a collage of multiple pictures and objects that have give a freedom to an otherwise formal portrait.

Interpretation: This piece seems to show the girl not just in her formal role of the Medici Princess but also as a little girl who likes animals, toys, has been schooled (the use of the numbers) and loves her family. The lines that cross over her face take the viewers directly to her eyes, which are the most expressive feature on the human body, to show her in a more real way.

Judgment: This piece is very successfully done. I love the way that the artist has taken the formal portrait and turned it into a more relaxed piece. The combination of the three dimensional pieces and the two dimensional pictures create a wonderful tension through out the artwork with the use of texture and color value.

Two Sides

Leading Lines
Exposure Mode Night Shot
Aperture 2.7
Shutter Speed 1/15
This picture has many leading lines visible. The most noticeable is the hard edges of the table, the balance of the people on either side, and the hard line of the wall in the background.

Clinique

Rule of Thirds
Exposure Mode Night Shot
Aperture 2.7
Shutter Speed 1/30
This photo was taken to show the different ways to see the rule of thirds in one picture. The three women in this photo help to break up the picture plane even though their heads are close together. We can also see that the open space at the top and then the people in the middle and then the solid table at the bottom also help to break up the space of the photo into the rule of thirds.

Bat Teeth

Close up fill frame with point of interest
Exposure Mode Night Shot
Aperture 2.7
Shutter Speed 1/8
This is a picture taken of a friend who had her version of vampire teeth. It was taken in a restaurant with very poor lighting and the flash from my camera really helped to make her face the focal point of this picture. It is a good way to fill the frame with a close up point of interest.

Friends at Play

Oblique Lines
Exposure Mode Night Shot
Aperture 2.7
Shutter Speed 1/8
This photo was taken inside a restaurant with very dim lighting. I wanted to show the oblique leading lines that were present here, as shown in the seating of the people, the placing of the menus, and the water glasses.
